Food is Medicine - Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple Cider Vinegar has for many years been touted as a wonder food, aiding our health in every which way you can imagine. Some of this notoriety is based on evidence others speculated.
Here I am specifically looking at whether the regular use of apple cider vinegar can help in weight loss.
The main ingredient in apple cider vinegar which stands out from other foods is its high amount of acetic acid.
In experiments on mice fed a high fat diet, those mice also given acetic acid did not get as fat as those not given acetic acid. The conclusion being that acetic acid enhances lipid solubility.
Other experiments have shown that consuming vinegar with carbohydrates may create a great satiety (fullness) therefore reducing your want to eat more during the day.
Finally a study was done on humans over 12 weeks, where three groups of people with similar Body Mass Index (BMI) where given either water, 15ml vinegar and 30ml vinegar. At the end of the trial the vinegar drinkers had lower BMI, less internal fat, and lost more weight than those whose drinks didn't contain vinegar. Vinegar also lowered triglycerides.
Conclusion:
The evidence suggests that taking apple cider vinegar can play a role in helping reduce weight. It is important to have unfiltered variety to get the most benefit. Also be vary aware of corrosive effects on teeth enamel.
